Big Bazaar has announced that its doorstep delivery services will remain open in various parts of the country amid India’s 21-day lockdown.

The services will be available in Mumbai, along with Delhi NCR, parts of Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Punjab.

In a series of tweets, Big Bazaar shared phone numbers for different outlets where customers can call and place orders.

This news comes even as most retailers, brick and mortar as well as online, has been limiting or completely suspending operations.

Online grocery delivery app BigBasket suspended its operations starting Wednesday. Flipkart, too, confirmed that it will suspend all operations temporarily.

On Tuesday, PM Modi announced a 21-day lockdown across the country effective from March 25 midnight to combat COVID-19 spread.

According to the official lockdown notification, “Shops including ration shops (under PDS), dealing with food, groceries, fruits and vegetables, dairy and milk booths, meat and fish, animal fodder” can remain open. The notification also states, “District authorities may encourage and facilitate home delivery to minimise the movement of individuals outside their homes.”
