In what should come as relief for telcos, the department of Telecom has said that it won’t use any coercive measures against telcos for payment of AGR dues till the Supreme Court hears the modification pleas, news agency PTI reported.

“The Director of Licensing Finance Policy Wing has issued direction that concerned departments should not take any coercive action against the licensees in case they fail to comply with the Supreme Court order, until further orders,” PTI quoted an official as saying.

Telcos, including Vodafone Idea which has the maximum share of AGR dues, said that they will wait for the apex court order before taking any decision on the AGR dues.

Telcos were supposed to pay AGR dues amounting to Rs 1.02 lakh crore today, according to an earlier Supreme Court order.

Reliance Jio is the only telecom company to have cleared its AGR dues totaling Rs 195 crore.
