Union Minister Dhotre Sanjay Shamrao commented on the protests at Banaras Hindu University against the appointment of a Muslim professor for teaching Sanskrit. Shamrao, who holds the Minister of State portfolio in the Union Human Resource Development Ministry, said that if there are ‘irregularities’ in the system, they can be highlighted by other means. A section of students has been opposing Firoz Khan’s appointment as Sanskrit teacher due to his faith. Protests continued in the varsity on Thursday.
