WTF?! What would compel you to buy a third-party graphics card? A beastly overclock? A well-established brand? Maybe a cool design? Yeston’s Radeon RX 9070 XT cards certainly have a nice look, but they also offer something unique: an integrated scent dispenser.
Yeston’s latest Radeon RX 9070 XTs, the Sakura Atlantis and Sakura models, join the list of graphics cards that sport Waifu-style anime designs. But that’s not the headline-grabbing feature.
The cards come with scent dispensers hidden beneath their shrouds. The Sakura Atlantis puts out an aroma that is supposed to smell like the ocean, while the Sakura is a classic floral scent.
YouTube tech channel Gamers Nexus reviewed the Sakura Atlantis. It included a group smell test of the fragrance module, which had been removed from the card.
Stephen Burke said that the fragrance pack didn’t smell as bad as when the scent was coming out of the card – not exactly a glowing endorsement. Other opinions include it smelling like a free-sample kiosk in a mall, a mix of perfume and post-wash laundry, a Glade plug-in, and nothing at all. Two people said it smelled like car air freshener.
The fragrance cartridge is placed beneath the shroud near the fans, helping disperse the smell. But getting to it requires removing and dissembling the entire card, something that most people would consider more trouble than it’s worth. Yeston hasn’t said if it will be selling refills, either.
The cards themselves differ only in their designs. Compared to the reference RX 9700 XT, they come with a 5% higher game clock and a 3% higher boost clock. They also feature three 8-pin PCIe power connectors, three DisplayPort 2.1a outputs, and one HDMI 2.1b port.
The Sakura Atlantis Radeon RX 9070 XT is normally $949 and is currently discounted to $899. The Sakura Radeon RX 9070 XT is usually $899 but is now $869.
Neither card is in stock, of course. Yeston recently apologized for its lack of RX 9070 cards, assuring consumers that the stock will stabilize in April.
Scented hardware seems to be the fashion right now. Asus revealed a series of monitors earlier this month that come with built-in fragranced air purifiers. Asus also unveiled a scented wireless mouse in February.
