Sex can be one of the most beautiful and profound experiences that one can have in life. Yet organized, mainstream Christianity says that having sex before marriage is a sin — a sin that can send someone to hell, where one will burn in everlasting hellfire. So why is that?
If you ask most Christians, they will say that it’s because God Said So — it’s because it’s written in the Bible. But what kind of loving, compassionate God would punish someone by sending them to everlasting hellfire for just having sex before marriage? Sex can be an act of love, a sacred act of union between two people. So what’s bad about that? And why would God consider sex before marriage a sin if he gives people that he created such an intense instinct for sex, especially to people who are very young, who have not married yet? It makes absolutely no sense.
But the church, the priesthood, likes you to believe that premarital sex is a sin and that you will burn in hell if you have it, because this way it can manipulate you. The church manipulates people by instilling fear in them. Fear is one of the best weapons that manipulators use. They tell you, “Hell exists, and if you do that thing, you will end up in hell.” And once you feel guilty and afraid that you might end up in hell, then they tell you, “You have to come closer to God through us. You have to ask for our help. You have to obey. You have to conform to the rules and dogma that we are giving you.” And once the church can control such a private aspect of your life — when it can control how you use your genitals — they can control pretty much your entire life. Once you allow them freedom over your sexuality, then you become a prisoner of them.
So if you have concerns that premarital sex might be a sin and that you might be a sinner for having experienced it, please let go of that bullshit. Sex can be a beautiful, wonderful act that can bring two people together, that can allow us to experience a sense of love and connection and bonding. It can be a freeing and truly spiritual or religious, if you will, experience. But those in the high ranks of organized religions, such as Christianity, don’t want us to know that so that they can control and have power over us.
You are here to live free, and you are here to love. So don’t condemn sex. Don’t vilify your natural instincts for it, but accept it, revere it, and savor it as long as you can.
