Talcum brand Nycil gets into Sanitiser business

Mumbai: Nycil, the Zydus Wellness-owned talc brand, is the latest to launch a sanitiser. Speaking exclusively to Brand Equity, Tarun Arora, CEO, Zydus Wellness, said, “This foray marks the firstever extension for the over 50-year old talcum powder brand.”

As per Nielsen 2019 data, Nycil was the leader in the Rs 700 crore prickly-heat talc sub-category with a market share of 34.5%.

The sanitiser product is also the first big launch on the Heinz portfolio after its acquisition in 2018. Ahmedabad-based Zydus Wellness with Cadila Healthcare added brands like Complan, Glucon-D and Nycil to the portfolio after the acquisition of Heinz India.

The company had been evaluating adjacent spaces that it could explore keeping in mind Nycil’s equity of ‘germ protection for the family’ and basis consumer research sanitiser had been ear-marked as one of the extensions that was scheduled for 2021. However, last month in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak, the company sped up its sanitiser foray.
