Nevertheless, the T7’s formfactor makes it a convenient option that is easy to carry anywhere. Samsung’s onboard encryption further makes security simple. Other options like Bitlocker-to-Go exist, but the lack of cross platform support and more involved setup processes make them less accessible. It is Samsung’s total-solution package that makes the Portable SSD T7 a fantastic option for a wide array of consumers.

Every bit as good as the T7 Touch but at a lower price makes this a brilliant all-purpose portable SSD.

Samsung’s T7 is a portable SSD that blends security with 10Gbps performance for those on the go. However, with a DRAMless architecture, performance can suffer quite a bit during large transfers that exceed Samsung’s TurboWrite cache.

Beginning at $109, the Samsung T7 is an impressive drive, especially on PC. As a portable drive, it is excellent, though you’ll want to ensure you have the proper USB revision to make the most of it. Coming from their previous T5 drive, which was my daily driver, I’m happy to see the T7 offer a consistently durable design. It’s a great drive to throw in a bag and go, and with the improved drop rating, it should be even more reliable.

While the Samsung T7 and Samsung T7 Touch are not among the fastest portable SSDs I’ve tested, nor are they the most affordable, they both have an excellent combo of speed, features, and design. And the integrated fingerprint sensor on the Touch version is a neat security bonus.

The Samsung SSD T7 is an excellent, premium storage solution for the size of slightly larger than a credit card. Featuring capacities up to 2TB, Samsung’s newest addition to their impressive portable SSD line features multi-device compatibility, high performance, durability, and ultra-portability.

While cloud storage has many advantages, there are also limitations. I do a lot of travel, and frequently run into situations with slow, limited or no Internet access. On an 6-hour plane flight, a movie collection stored on iCloud is effectively as unreachable as the moon, for example. There’re also questions of privacy and security; it’s much safer to store proprietary information locally.

The Samsung Portable SSD T7 is an excellent value with three colorways joining three capacity options, all competitive in both price and performance.
