The Samsung 9100 Pro is a top running Gen5 SSD that achieves over 14GB/s with over 2 million IOPS. It comes in up to a 4TB capacity with a 5-year limited warranty and a healthy price point. Definitely the SSD to have if you need extreme performance!

The Samsung 9100 Pro is Samsung’s answer for the high-end PCIe 5.0 storage market. It’s a good drive with high performance and power efficiency but falls short of being truly impressive.

Samsung’s 9100 Pro is the highest performing 4TB SSD we’ve encountered, and stays cool under fire.

Samsung’s first proper PCIe 5.0 SSD keeps cool without a ridiculously oversized heatsink contraption, and it’s the fastest drive we’ve ever tested in some tests as well, particularly on game loads. You don’t always see that extra speed benefit, though, and you can get similar performance for less money elsewhere.

We’ve waited a long, long time for Samsung to get a Gen 5 SSD into the consumer space and it’s finally arrived in the shape of the 9100 Pro. It manages to combine fast performance and pretty good thermals, a neat trick considering this is a Gen 5 drive. Well worth the wait.

The Samsung 9100 Pro is Samsung’s first ‘true’ PCIe 5.0 SSD, and it definitely delivers fantastic performance with the fastest write speeds I’ve ever tested, but its sequential read speeds fall short of the promised 14,800MB/s, so gamers and enthusiasts might do better with other drives like the Crucial T705.

If you’ve been waiting to upgrade to a PCI Express 5.0 system until there was a drive capable of using every ounce of performance, this is your alarm call. The Samsung 9100 Pro is blindingly fast, and wins our OC3D Performance Award.

While its speediness is impressive, it’s all the more awesome considering the power consumption and operating temperatures of 9100 Pro. Never did I think I’d see the day where PCIe 5.0 x4 SSDs didn’t need an enormous heatsink to deliver the power of its interface. Thanks to Samsung, here we are.

The speed of the 9100 PRO is right at the top end of the market, and to make the most of those speeds, you’ll also need to ensure that you have the correct hardware. My AMD-powered ASUS board did have the technology, but only just, and it took some fiddling due to only featuring a single and not dual PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot. Still, the speed boost is impressive.
