Marko Arnautovic update after Bournemouth 2

Bournemouth 2 – West Ham 0

It was a bad day at the office for West Ham on Saturday at Bournemouth.

After two wins on the spin against Birmingham and Arsenal, West Ham lost 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium.

Callum Wilson broke the deadlock with a powerful strike after 54 minutes.

David Brooks set up Josh King for the second in the 90th minute.

The win lifted Bournemouth up to 30 points from 23 games. The Cherries are 12th in the league.

West Ham are tenth in the division with 31 points.

Marko Arnautovic update

Austrian striker Marko Arnautovic was left out of West Ham’s matchday squad on the south coast.

Arnautovic has dominated the headlines in the past week following reports of an offer to join the Chinese Super League.

Arnautovic is under contract with the Irons until 2022 and the club have shown no desire to want to sell their star forward.]

Yet the player is reportedly keen on switching to China, with assumptions that Arnautovic would receive a major pay hike.

After the Bournemouth game Manuel Pellegrini was asked when Arnautovic could return to the fold. The West Ham manager said:

As a manager you must choose a player who works the best during the week. I thought it was not a good idea for him to play today.

Currently it’s unclear when, or if, Arnautovic may next play for West Ham.

The Hammers now have a week off until an FA Cup fourth round tie away at AFC Wimbledon.

Wolves host West Ham in the Premier League on January 29.
