JEREMY Corbyn has promoted an MP who said she would never be friends with a Tory to his front bench – and brought back another who resigned over Brexit just months ago.
In a reshuffle of his top team tonight, the Labour leader appointed Laura Pidcock to the position of shadow minister for Labour.
The MP for North West Durham, who was only elected in 2017, caused uproar when she said she would never be friends with anyone from the Conservative party.
The Corbynista accused them of being the “enemy” and she had “No intention” of hanging out with any of them.
And Mr Corbyn today gave Clive Lewis the spot of shadow Treasury minister – despite him quitting the frontbench last February because the then shadow business spokesperson could not bring himself to vote for the Government’s. Brexit Bill, which led to the triggering of Article 50.
The Norwich North MP was among 52 MPs who defied Labour’s three line whip, but the Bill passed through the Commons with a whopping majority.
Mr Lewis who was forced to say sorry for telling an activist to “get on your knees b***h” at an event at Labour’s party conference last year.
The Labour leader condemned Mr Lewis’s remark as “completely wrong.”
The Labour reshuffle comes days after Theresa May gave her Government a boost by switching around a number of ministers – and promoting rising stars to swish new jobs.
But it was botched by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt who refused to be moved to the Business Department, and Justine Greening who quit as Education Secretary.
Corbyn said in a statement: “I am pleased to make these appointments to strengthen Labour’s frontbench team, which is now a Government in waiting.
“I look forward to working with them in their new roles holding the Government to account, developing policy to transform our country and, with their Shadow Secretary of States, preparing to form a Government that will deliver for the many not the few.”
