NEW DELHI: Honda Cars India said it is looking at commencing production at its manufacturing facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan sometime next week.

In response to a query from ET, Rajesh Goel, senior vice-president and director (marketing and sales), Honda Cars India, said, “With the new relaxations rolled out by the government, we were planning to restart operations in our Tapukara plant in Rajasthan sometime next week following the norms laid down by the Central and State Government as well as the local authorities.”

Several of the company’s associates were able to visit the plant today for preparatory work including equipment check, training protocols, safety declaration etc.

Goel said that the company has also been in touch with its associates and are aware of their health and location status. “However, in order to resume production even at lower level and in single shift, we require manpower which is living in the neighbourhood and also from nearby areas of Dharuhera, Rewari etc. Currently, it appears difficult to get the required manpower due to the travel restrictions and start production as per our plan. We will keep assessing the manpower availability and also supply chain position closely to take a decision on when to start production”, informed Goel.

As regards restarting operations at the company’s Greater Noida facility, Honda Cars India said it will approach the operations resumption once it get necessary permissions from the authorities and also overcome the challenge of manpower availability.
