New Delhi:

Yes, he could and he did. South Korean Bong Joon-ho scored a major upset over 1917’s Sam Mendes, winning Best Director for Parasite, which also won Best International Feature and Best Original Screenplay. Brad Pitt is this year’s Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars, winning for his performance in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Brad, who has swept this award season, beat out Anthony Hopkins (The Two Popes), Tom Hanks (A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood), and The Irishman stars Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. Before he went up to receive his Oscar from last year’s Best Supporting Actress Regina King, Brad got a hug from his co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, a Best Actor nominee this year. Laura Dern, also a favourite this year, won the Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story.

Unsurprisingly, war drama 1917 won Best Cinematography – the movie was filmed to make it seem like one single shot. It also won Best Visual Effects. Jojo Rabbit won Best Adapted Screenplay. Toy Story 4 won Best Animated Feature.

India’s Oscar entry this year, Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, exited the race at the shortlist stage.
