eero Pro 6E Mesh WiFi System Reviews, Pros and Cons

80

This isn’t a review of Wi-Fi 6E; this is a review of the Eero Pro 6E. Like the less expensive Eero 6 Plus, it’s a highly capable mesh router at a fair asking price and one that I’d recommend if you’re already paying up for gigabit internet speeds (or if you’re planning to at some point soon). If you’re eyeing the growing availability of multi-gig internet plans, I’d recommend waiting for better Wi-Fi 7 options to emerge. Even with Wi-Fi 6E and a multi-gig WAN port, the Pro 6E won’t ever deliver wireless speeds like those.

There are too many things that hold back the Amazon Eero Pro 6E from being a mesh WiFi system worthy of its high asking price. Yes, it doesn’t take up much space, has a clean design and is really easy to set up. But as a standalone router, the Pro 6E is left stranded, begging for an even greater investment in better connectivity.

Mesh for the masses, but prosumers will find it limited.

The eero Pro 6E is a very good router if you have a medium- to large-sized home with a backyard. It provides great speeds suitable for bandwidth-intensive internet use, like 4k video streaming on multiple devices and quickly downloading large files, no matter where you are in the house. You can easily add access points to a mesh network for better coverage. It only has two wired networking ports, but only one is rated for 2.5 Gbps.

If you value ease of setup and reliability over outright Wi-Fi speed, the eero Pro 6E mesh kit is a no-fuss way to fill a mid-sized home with wireless data. It may not be as fast as other Wi-Fi 6E routers and falls short on range, but the three-piece kit should be more than enough for all but a mansion-sized abode while its built-in Zigbee radio can help connect your smart home devices.

For busy families in small to average-sized houses or groups in apartments, with no time to fiddle with settings and at least a few devices capable of connecting to the 6=GHz band, the Eero Pro 6E could be ideal. Folks upgrading from an older Eero system, or with Echo speakers with Eero Built-in, can use them to extend the coverage. That could prove crucial for people with large properties, because range is one of the main weaknesses of this system.

The Amazon Eero Pro 6E is a well-priced mesh Wi-Fi network that is super easy to set up and that will help you make the most of your broadband. It also works seamlessly with the rest of your smart home, not only can it act as a Zigbee hub but you can also control it by voice using your Amazon Alexa devices.

The Eero Pro 6E mesh is good at keeping your devices connected and has great range, but the fancy new 6GHz radio (which means an inflated price) is almost useless right now. The app is also so streamlined that it hides useful information from users.
