The letter said that the past month has seen us all enter unfamiliar terrain. The course of COVID-19 continues to be highly fluid and uncertain, affecting the very fundamentals of the world around us.
More than one-fourth of the world population is locked down. In some cities and geographies, the virus is spreading very rapidly.
“Today we complete the ninth day of India’s nation-wide lockdown and enter the 10th day. It is an intense, confusing and pivotal moment in time I am sure that many of you are struggling to adapt to many new realities all at once. If there is one thing I want you to know, it is simply that we understand your situation, and we are here with you and your families,” he said.
“This time is no different. It is a time to put the welfare of our communities ahead of anything else. We are proud of our many Tata employees that are on the frontlines, working as essentials workers during this time. ”
“The Tata Group is at the forefront of this challenge in India. The leadership has been in touch with state and central governments, and will support them in this fight. We have offered our resources and provided other help to agencies and individuals on the frontlines. Our approach has been multi-pronged, focused on adaptive solutions:
- Across Tata Trusts and Tata Sons, we are dedicating Rs 1500 crore to the fight against Covid-19, and have created a cross-company task force to deal with responses and execution.
- We are planning to increase food distribution through TAJ. We are catering to hospitals in Mumbai, and expanding to a number of other cities.
- In places like Jamshedpur, we are scaling up to provide 50,000 meals a day (by 3 April) to those in need.
- We continue to procure PPEs and testing kits in large quantities, both in India and from overseas, to meet upcoming needs.
- We are procuring a considerable number of ventilators to meet demand for the next 2-3 months. At the same time, we are gearing up to manufacture ventilators to meet subsequent demand.
- We have already raised the capacity of our hospitals across the nation—from Jamshedpur to Mithapur, from Munnar to the tea estates of Assam—to care for COVID-19 patients.
- We are now working with other hospitals (both government hospitals and hospitals that have partnerships with Tata Trusts).
- In addition to these efforts, our companies are working closely with hard-hit communities on the ground through a set of initiatives, including home-based income generation programs and support for returning migrants.
