Chris Smalling signs new Man United contract a day before Liverpool

Manchester United agree Chris Smalling deal

Chris Smalling has the opportunity to remain at Manchester United until 2023 after signing a new deal on Saturday.

Man United have agreed to pen Smalling to a new deal until 2022.

Man United have also retained the option to extend Smalling’s deal by another year.

Smalling, 29, was under contract at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

It’s worth noting that Man United did have an existing option to extend Smalling’s contract by 12 months, until 2020.

However the club have gone a step further by handing the centre-half this longer deal.

Smalling has been a virtual ever present for Man United this season.

How much money will Chris Smalling now be on?

That information isn’t known right now.

However it had previously been reported that Smalling was on 80,000 pounds a week.

It’s believed the defender was looking for a pay hike up to 120,000 pounds a week.

Smalling has announced his new deal a day before Man United travel to Liverpool in the Premier League.

Liverpool can go top of the table with a win, following Man City’s 3-1 win over Everton on Saturday.

Man United head to Anfield in sixth place.

United are eight points behind Arsenal and Chelsea.
