Black Friday will commence just after midnight on Friday, November 29 and draw to a close at the end of the day, but you don’t have to wait until then to snap up a pair of headphones on the cheap. A number of retailers have already discounted a handful of big-brand cans ahead of the big day, including the Apple AirPods 2, Bose QuietComfort 35, and Powerbeats 3.

While there is a chance the price will slip a bit more when the shopping bonanza kicks off next month, it’s unlikely it’ll be by much. These are bottom-of-the-barrel prices and it’s hard to imagine any retailer having the leeway to reduce the Apple-made AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case and Powerbeats 3 by a whole lot more than they’ve already had knocked off.

What headphone deals to expect from Black Friday 2019

As is the case with high-resolution TVs, Black Friday has always been a nest for cheap headphones — and Black Friday 2019 will undoubtedly be no exception. We’re expecting to see everything from high-end flagship models that have only just hit the shelves to year-old midrange models find their way into the sale bin. There’s bound to be something for everyone.

Of course, it’s not only big-brand models that will be reduced. As well as the usual suspects — Beats, Bose, Sennheiser, Sony — we should see both earbuds and headphones from the likes of Anker and Betron. Granted, these discounts won’t be as substantial as that of older models from household-name manufacturers, but surely every cent saved is a cent earned, right?

One model that definitely won’t be at the center of the festivities, however, is the AirPods Pro. Announced on October 28, the top-of-the-range AirPods are too new to have a hefty amount wiped off on Black Friday. That’s not to mean they won’t have few bucks shaved off, though, or be offered with a discount in a different form — like a free six-month Apple Music subscription.

So, what will be the deal to nab? Well, we’re expecting to see a significant reduction on the Sony WH-1000XM3, which we rated the best headphone on the market right now. It’s not a far-fetched prediction, either — the $350 cans had $50 knocked off them on Prime Day and were on sale for just $220 earlier this week, so we could see them as low as $150 on Black Friday 2019.

How to choose headphones

The secret to scoring a fantastic deal on Black Friday is planning. Decide on the type of headphones you’re after and any must-have features (a set of wireless headphones with noise canceling, for example) before starting your search. Better yet, tunnel in on the specific cans you want. This will dramatically increase your chances of snagging them at a discounted price.

Of course, that’s a lot easier said than done. If you’re operating on a tight budget, chances are you’re going to go with the first set that falls into it.
