A recent research study conducted by an independent German institute confirmed that Windows Defender is everything you need to keep your Windows 10 PCs safe from cyber threats.
AV-TEST institute examined 15000 pieces of malware by conducting a series of in-depth experiments.
The institute detected Zero-Day malware by carefully analyzing Web and attachments during the first phase. The second phase involved the study of known vulnerabilities. AV-TEST created a frame of reference for carrying out the tests.
The research methodology involved assessing three basic factors usability, system load, and detection capacity. Researchers examined the standard configuration of 19 security products that are being used in Windows 10.
We focused on realistic test scenarios and challenged the products against real-world threats. Products had to demonstrate their capabilities using all components and protection layers.
These tests were conducted during the months of January and February. The results of these tests were published online to rank security products including Symantec Norton Security, McAfee Internet Security and F-Secure.
All of these suites scored 6 points in protection, performance and usability and thus got the maximum of 18 points.
So, if these solutions ranked high in February, they can definitely fully protect your PC in March as well. So, check out these results to learn what are the best antivirus solutions to use in March 2019.
Antivirus performance results on Windows 10
You might be surprised to learn that Kaspersky Internet Security did not achieve the highest score.
Bitdefender also did not manage to reach within the top positions and the score for both of these products was recorded to be 17.5 and 16.5, respectively.
AhnLab V3 Internet Security and Microworld eScan Internet Security Suite also obtained 16.5 points. Bitdefender can improve in all areas as it obtained 5.5 points for protection, 5.5 points for performance, and 5.5 points for usability.
Another candidate of the top positions Trend Micro Internet Security also scored 16.5 points. This product was rated by the researchers as 5.5 points for protection, 5.0 points for performance, and 6.0 for usability.
However, the lowest score of 14 points was obtained by Malwarebytes Premium. The security solution got 4.5 points for protection, 5 points for performance, and 4.5 points for usability.
Windows Defender got a pretty high score
This research proved that Windows Defender left behind many security products and scored a total of 17 points.
It scored high in protection (5.5 points) for both performance and usability. These results prove once again that Windows 10 users have been underestimating the capabilities of their system’s default antivirus solution.
